Granny Graduation,
Blocking My Growth or Is It Groomed and Grown?
Applying for jobs is a headache. Looking for work in your field is a migraine. When you go to these place seeking employment and see an "elder" there as the receptionist, it makes you think...should there be a mandatory retirement age and compensation enforced? Career advancements, titles and opportunities are what we all work toward. If you've held a position and have made no changes and don't email, Facebook or know how to Beef It Up,it may be time to move on!
Generations should be overseen as classes, when you complete the requirements; you graduate. If you're unfulfilled or just want more, go to graduate school. Thing is, too many young people are unemployed and are not in a position to connect with people to help them create opportunities for themselves. You can apply all day, but usually if you don't already know somebody, you won't get the job.
In my field (Mass Communications), the struggle is never ending! It's understood that we're in a competitive field, but you're 25 and competition is 45 and they get and stronghold the gig. They don't graduate to the next radio or tv station for the demographic that they fit. The news anchor who stumbles over words off of the teleprompter is 68 and you're 34...you've never had your time. Instead you're forced to settle for a production job and write the good leads that completely lose! What a waste of talent!
You've been called to the ministry (by God)at 22 or 42 and you're under a pastor who's 82. The church is filled with innovative, young adults who are considering leaving because they aren't getting what they need. You only pray over the offering and benediction...do you stay or start a church??? This same idea is why there are so many progressive movements in the universal church and so many churches!
At the young age of 16 you are eligible for a driver's license if you pass the test. At 76, there is no retest, so you can drive until you're 86, 96 and if you live to see it, 106 (which is very scary)! I just wonder, if these changes were made respectfully, would things be different i.e. the unemployment rate, technological advances for thriving businesses, etc.? No disrespect to the elders and older adults, nothing but love, but we gotta live too and shouldn't have to wait until we're 35 or until someone dies to do it.
