“Your Local Lady” WOO.
With a strong desire to educate, inform and provide quality entertainment for her people, Woo is talk radio in Birmingham. Her wit and boldness pull the ears of those of all ages, but she focuses on her younger peers. Her show topics, dynamic guests and love for her listeners are just a few reasons for the popularity and success of The Skool of Hip Hop and her other ventures.
Her radio career began in 2003 at Alabama State University’s WVAS 90.7FM where she was fulfilling a work study job at the station. The program director was out for weeks recovering from major surgery with everyone filling in. The assistant program director, Eugenia Ricks, worked with Woo for a week and the rest was history!
After a few months on air and continuing her studies in Communications at Miles College, Woo made a decision to stick with the airwaves and move back home to Birmingham. That’s when things took off! She interned under the advisement of Lil Homie for 7 months learning sound board operations, production and meeting local and mainstream musical artist and producers. Mary K, now program director, took special interest in Woo and March 2006, Woo was hired to Cox Radio Inc.
Her vibrant personality on and off the air has made her a people magnet. She used that to reach out to Birmingham’s local artist with her first show, Wanting to be Heard. This show featured local music and interviews with the artists. This was great, but her most special accomplishment in radio by far happened April 6, 2008 the Skool of Hip Hop aired for the first time!
The show tackles the “real” issues that affect hip hoppers, the community and the world. Woo has featured guest such as Eric Jerome Dickey, Mayor Larry Langford, Dr.Ian and DJ Drama just to name a few.
“Your Local Lady” Woo continues to educate, enlighten and entertain as she lives out her dreams to make a difference in the world. Praying for God's continued guidance and blessings, the journey will continue.
